I said a tearful goodbye to my backyard rink today.

JvR needs to go for a legit D. His value will never be higher and I can't see us wanting to pay him $6.5-$7M long term.

Long term I think they will move him as well. We may have a hole in front of their net and he is a 30-goal scorer but like we have seen with the rookies not names Matthews, Marner and Nylander but the Brown's, Leivo, Hyman and Sosh they can still chip in offensively and imo will makeup for JVR on the defensive side of the puck, although he has improved under Babs.

Hunwick seems to be that guy.

In all honesty, if the Leafs are looking at a defender, I'd look at Andy Greene and how much he would cost from the Devils. Still a quality veteran top-4 (playing as a number 1).

Long term I think they will move him as well. We may have a hole in front of their net and he is a 30-goal scorer but like we have seen with the rookies not names Matthews, Marner and Nylander but the Brown's, Leivo, Hyman and Sosh they can still chip in offensively and imo will makeup for JVR on the defensive side of the puck, although he has improved under Babs.

What's nice, is that after the 'big three', Rychel might pan out to be better than the other four.

I do like all of the four though - I have really high hopes for Rychel to become a do-it-all 2nd line LW. (ie Hyman with good hands).
